Although singing actress DALIDA didn't register hits in either the UK or the US, she sold millions of records in mainland Europe, notably in France and Belgium, and also in French-speaking Quebec, in Canada. The first artiste to be awarded a Gold Disc in France, in 1957, she went on to win seventy more and for many years she was probably the most successful female singer in the world outside of Britain and The United States. Indeed, during the 1950s, 60s and 70s she sold very nearly 150 million records worldwide. Dalida enjoyed success both with covers of US and/or UK hits, and also original material, penned by established French songwriters. This unique 2-CD compilation presents her sixty biggest hit records between 1956 and 62, split nearly evenly between covers and original songs.
