The idea for an AbbA tribute band originated as far back as 1991, when Jennie Fitzgerald (Frida) and a partner appeared on London Weekend TV singing Ring Ring, and appealed to the massive TV audience for a Benny and Bjorn to complete the group's line-up. It was not until 1993 that the band had a settled line-up and were rehearsed for gigging. For the next four years the band constantly toured the United Kingdom and eventually abroad, building a formidable reputation for their energetic live performances which were always presented with unique style and good humour. It was at the beginning of 1997, after glowing testimonials for the band were flying in from all directions - "a concert that often verges on the sensational" - that the band dumbfounded the doubters by signing to Idle Hands (Management) who could clearly see the splendid singing talents of each individual member of the group and their untapped song writing talents. Little did the band know at that stage what was ahead. An immediate modification of the band's name to The REAL AbbA Gold, in order to differentiate itself from other bands cashing in on their live success, was the first of many changes. A complete overhaul of the stage show, with the introduction of guest band members, has complemented the state-of-the-art touring production which set apart The REAL AbbA Gold from any of it's competitors. Marvel at the sensitivity of the original AbbA songs which have been produced with the unique Real AbbA Gold feel. Be amazed at the quality of the additional five songs which have been written by the band in a 90s AbbAesque style, confirming the statement "... not only the best tribute band in the world, but the most original".
